NETS-A
It is difficult to say which NETS-A is the most important. I believe as an administrator trying to create a productive environment for 21st century learners, we must encompass all of the standards. To say one is more important than the other is difficult. If I had to choose one standard that prevails over the others, in my opinion it would be Standard 2: Digital Age Learning Culture. I believe if you provide the technology for the teachers and the students, and model the technology, it will hopefully be used for instruction. This standard also focuses on purchasing and providing the equipment and technology for your school and providing continuous improvements of digital-age learning. As an administrator it is imperative that you are seeking continual improvements within your school.

I liked all the standards also but, as you stated in your post, Standard Two focuses on "purchasing and providing equipment and technology" and my financially challenged school is lagging to the point we only possess two Smart Boards, and we are a high school. I feel as an administrator one must ensure their staff does understand and utilize the technology that is provided. So many times we do not provide the proper training and continued education needed to ensure the change remains in effect, and purchased technology is never used. Excellent point about our need to incorporate all standards, and it was hard to choose.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was hard to choose. When I first started writing, I had originally chosen digital citizenship. But as I started brainstorming and typing my opinions, I realized that I was writing more on the visionary leadership aspect of the standards than the citizenship. It is my opinion that in order to implement and model technology in instruction, creative people must first obtain and maintain a vision that could be ever changing in order to keep up with the many aspects of technology.
ReplyDeleteI see what you are saying. I think about what it means to change a culture. You have to completely change the way things are done, which in turn means you have to change the way people think. Most importantly though, as administrators we need to be at the forefront, modeling the use of technology.
ReplyDeleteI too agree that all of the standards are very good and hard to determine which the best is. However, I must agree with Scout27817 in that a lot of schools do not have the means to purchase a lot of technology. Therefore, being creative and having a staff that collectively buys into the technology is very important to insure that the technology is able to be used by everyone.
ReplyDeleteI believe that you are correct in saying that it is hard to pick just one standard. They all mesh together to form the technology structure that is needed for today's digital learners. I also believe that #2 is very important because it is pushing the technology into the curriculum and allowing teachers and administrators the chance to learn about all the technology and it's impact on the learners of today.
ReplyDeleteI can see what you are saying. Staff development is great and teaching your teachers how to use it is imperative but without the proper funds and ability to purchase the equipment, the staff development loses its purpose.
